Spirulina Tamanduá is cultivated in northeastern Brazil – in the heart of the Sertão, a region with intense sun, short rainy periods, and long dry seasons. These conditions are ideal for Spirulina.

At Fazenda Tamanduá, biodynamic agriculture has been combined with consistent sustainability for decades: a private nature park, Brown-Swiss cattle on the pastures, and solar power for the entire production.

The farm was founded by Swiss Pierre Landolt. Swiss Brown cattle graze on the pastures – unusual in the semi-arid northeast of Brazil, but a symbol of the connection between tropical Brazil and Alpine Switzerland. Through Ethikabio, there is a direct connection to Switzerland. Ethikabio acts as curator of the Demeter Spirulina product, which is the result of this collaborative partnership.

Cultivation occurs above ground in sunlight, nourished with artesian groundwater. Regular analyses confirm purity – free from heavy metals, rich in protein, minerals, and the valuable pigment phycocyanin. Gentle low-temperature drying preserves this quality.
The farm cooperates with UNIFESP (São Paulo) and UNIFIP (Patos) in research & education, including bioactive compounds in Spirulina.
